FAQ

Common questions

Is switching to LED worth it?
Often, but it depends on your existing fixtures, hours of use, local utility programs and what you pay for power. LED generally uses less energy and needs less maintenance than older sources. We can help you compare retrofit options before you commit.
Can you replace fixtures in a building that is open for business?
Yes. Much of this work can be scheduled after hours or in sections so that normal operations continue.
Do you install parking lot lighting?
Yes, including wall packs and pole-mounted fixtures. Exterior work depends on conduit routes, pole bases and frost conditions, and in Minnesota that timing matters. We will plan around the season.
Do you supply the fixtures?
That depends on the project. On many jobs the fixtures are specified by a designer or supplied by the owner or GC. We can install what is provided or help with selection.
More about commercial lighting

Commercial lighting covers more than ceiling fixtures. It includes interior general and task lighting, high-bay fixtures for warehouses and shops, exterior wall packs, pole-mounted parking lot lighting, and the switches, sensors and controls that run them. Each space has its own demands for light levels, mounting height and durability.

Many buildings in the Twin Cities still run older fluorescent or high-intensity discharge fixtures that are costly to maintain. LED replacement can reduce maintenance and energy use, but the right approach depends on the fixtures, the ceiling, the controls and whether the existing wiring is sound. We help you choose between replacing fixtures outright and other options.

We install to the lighting plan or a layout agreed with you. Emergency and exit lighting is a code-driven part of any commercial lighting scope and is covered on its own page.

When you need it

  • Fixtures are failing, flickering or buzzing, and lamp and ballast replacement keeps recurring
  • You want to move from fluorescent or HID fixtures to LED
  • Parking lot, entry or exterior lighting is dim, uneven or not working
  • A renovation or tenant improvement calls for a new lighting layout
  • Spaces are lit around the clock and could use occupancy sensors or scheduling
  • High ceilings make routine lamp changes expensive and hazardous
  • Light levels in work areas, stairwells or corridors are poor and need correcting

Our process

  1. Review the space

We look at existing fixtures, ceilings, circuits and the plan or goals for the new lighting.

  2. Confirm the layout

Fixture types, locations and controls are agreed before anything is ordered.

  3. Install

Work is scheduled to limit disruption, often after hours in occupied commercial space.

  4. Aim, test and clean up

We test controls, adjust where needed and remove the old fixtures.

More questions

Does a lighting upgrade need a permit?
Often yes, particularly when circuits, controls or fixture locations change. We determine what is required for your project and handle the permit.
